Annemieke Dannenberg is an Utrecht based writer currently pursuing an MA in Religious Studies. In February 2018 she joined the RCMC as a coordination and event planning intern.

Annemieke obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing at ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem, graduating with a book of poetry and photography called Melk en Honing (‘Milk and Honey’). The work explores the emancipation of Christian women in western society. This led to online publications and several readings at literary events. Annemieke’s artistic work is strongly based on religious symbolism, rituals and spiritualism. She continued after with a Master programme in Religious Studies at the University of Utrecht to embed her artistic practice into a theoretical framework and learn more about the material culture of religion. During her studies she developed an interest in theories around religious experiences, devotional/power objects and transgression. She did a visitor-based research under supervision of Professor Dr. Birgit Meyer during the exhibition of Mary in the Catharijneconvent Museum and interviewed visitors on their personal associations with particular objects, which gave an insight in how people (religious and not religious) related to the representations of Mary in their everyday lives through objects, prayers, stories and memories.

Her internship at the RCMC contains a research for her master thesis into the missionary context of the Afrika Museum and the ritual objects that are exhibited. She also assists with the coordination and production of different events from the RCMC in Leiden.
