Who are We? - Book launch White Innocence

What does it mean to be Dutch and who decides that? Since September 11 2001, the discussion about who we are, multiculturality and the future of the Netherlands in a globalising world has become more urgent, and more polarised. Cultural institutes and museums reflect also on these developments, but on what level do they influence the current conceptualization and discourses in the society?

On Friday the 27th of May, these questions will be central during the event Who are We? Book launch White Innocence. This event is part of a series of conversations with artists, academics and activists, in which sensitive topics like identity, itizenship, heritage and culture will be questioned.

White Innocence

Who are We? kicks off with the book launche of White Innonce of the celebrated academic Gloria Wekker. The book, which will be presented during this evening, researches the ways in which the colonial past still forms the present, in the ways in which we define ourselves and others. There will be a program in which artists, musicians, and academics like Quinsy Gario, Isabel Hoving, Markus Balkenhol, Susan LegĂȘne, Seada Nourhussen, Shishani Vranckx, Charl Landvreugd, Job Cohen and Nancy Jouwe will give their vision on Who are We?
