Junior and Senior

FEL Scholars

FEL Fellowships offer funding for both senior and junior scholars.

FEL Senior Scholars

The FEL Senior Scholars Fellowship programme seeks to bring international scholars to Leiden who will contribute to the research agendas of both the RCMC and Leiden University, to generate ideas for new museum practices, contribute to the scholarly offer for students, further the research agenda of both academics at the university and in the museum (curators). Where possible, they will contribute to the development of joint research projects.

Senior research fellows will be proposed by both museum and university partners, and will be chosen based on their work in relation to the interrelated research themes of the RCMC. Therefore, the FEL Senior Scholars Fellowship is not open for application.

The first distinguished fellow was James Clifford (April 18 - May 13, 2016). Watch his lecture online: Museum Realisms.

FEL Junior Scholars

The FEL Junior Scholars Fellowship programme provides financial support to talented junior scholars interested in conducting (ethnographic) research or publishing on the collections of the Tropenmuseum, Museum Volkenkunde and Afrika Museum. Students and scholars with a background in museum studies, anthropology, archaeology, art history or related disciplines can apply. We offer six grants in total: two of € 500, two of € 1,000 and two of € 1,500. From 2012 to 2016, this program operated as the Dr. Steven Engelsman Grants.

The call for proposals is currently closed.
