design histories

What is the historical, social and technological significance of weaving in human culture? What might the study of woven structures tell us about cognitive abilities, material and ecological knowledge, and social relations involved in practices of making? And how can woven objects in ethnographic collections yield creativity, knowledge and inspiration for contemporary designers?

Each year, the RCMC offers several short-term residential research fellowships for scholars, curators, and practice-based researchers working on issues related to RCMC research themes.
