The 2016 fashion fest was a co-creation between MAFB and the Research Center for Material Culture – of the Tropenmuseum, Afrika Museum and Museum Volkenkunde. The fashion fest staged a battlefield for creativity and accommodated 62 talents between 18 and 40 years old that operated within the following disciplines: fashion design, hairstyling, make-up and modelling.
Over the program, all participants formed a team where each team will consisted of a designer, a hair stylist, a make-up artist and 4 models. The participants visited the archive of the Tropenmuseum during private tours and proved their talent through 3 masterclass days. Afther the private tours and masterclasses the 4 disciplines together prepared their final catwalkshow in the Lichthal of the Tropenmuseum on the 10th of December.
An international jury consisting of Shaka Maidoh (Art Comes First), Massamba Lambert (Art Comes First), Steven Dahlberg (Chef fashion JFK Magazine), Willa Stoutenbeek (Owner W.Green) and Els van der Plas (General Director National Opera & Ballet) judged the contestants from all disciplines. And the lovely Anna Nooshin known as blogger and tv RTL Boulevard host presented this year’s fashion fest!
