This symposium will bring together a number of experts, artists, academics, polar scientists, policy makers, and anthropologists that focus on the arctic and polar region – and aim to contribute towards solutions for crucial socio-scientific issues, such as the global realities of climate change. The NWO symposium has cordially invited the Curator of the Arctic and Circumpolar Cultures of the NMVW, Cunera Buijs, to attend. Buijs is an anthropologist, specialized in visual and museum anthropology and has dedicated her curatorial work and research to issues of dress and identity, and questions of ownership, authority and access. She has explored these interests with specific attention to the material culture of the Arctic area, specializing in issues of sharing knowledge and cultural heritage, and visual repatriation.
