This first session will be guided by Priya Swamy, who is a curator and researcher of/in South Asian diasporas. She will begin with giving historical context on the beginnings of Hindu nationalism, and offer questions to help us think critically about the impact of Hindu nationalism in the diaspora. Why is Hindu nationalism increasingly, insidiously, normalized by nation-states, powerful diasporic groups, and sometimes our own family and friends? This is an open conversation where people can share anecdotes, ask questions, and strategies of resistance.
This is a community-focused study group that prioritizes participants’ safety. Please note that these sessions are private, and unrecorded. It is not allowed to use this session or what has been said as the basis of any research or journalism paper, fieldwork, or participant observation.
