Amsterdam’s urban landscape is an archive of the colonial past. Entangled as the city was in a network of global colonial relations, it is a city where the remains of the colonial past can be found everywhere, even though not always visible: in street names and in neighbourhoods, in monuments and in museums. The Tropenmuseum and the Royal Tropical Institute, KIT are collaboratively working on the research project Entangled in History. The project researches, interprets and presents the stories of the KIT building, also home of the museum, for a broader public.
